“Constellation Medina” with Hamedine Kane, Institut Français x Le Loft, Dakar x Yataal Art

We are pleased to announce the participation of Hamedine Kane with his latest film “Mad House et les sombres vieux fleuves” to the exhibition “Constellation Medina” - an offsite project organized by the Institut Français du Sénégal in Dakar, as part of the 12th edition of Partcours, in partnership with Yataal Art, Le Loft Dakar.

The exhibition explores the work of Pape Diop, an artist who lives in Médina and scatters his works along the walls and sidewalks, offering them to passers-by and creating a poetic urban constellation. He draws on whatever supports and with whatever materials he finds in his immediate environment: on plywood, on walls or on the ground, he can grab a cigarette butt, a piece of coal or a bit of coffee to paint with a sure and friendly gesture. Pape Diop's works have been collected and conserved by Yataal Art for over 10 years (4,500 pieces to date) and are displayed in the Loft Dakar, while an original film by Hamedine Kane is scattered around the Médina district. If Pape Diop takes care of himself through his art, he also takes care of local residents, offering them collective street therapy.
